More and more offices want to get rid of loose stacks and full folder cabinets. A roll container at the door then seems the logical answer. You drop the paper in and someone collects it periodically. Why a separate paper container?

A separate container for paper has two reasons. The first is practical. By confidential paper, think of anything with a name, address, citizen service number, signature, bank details, quotes, contracts or internal correspondence. What to check when renting

When you rent a container for paper and archive, run through these points. They decide whether you are renting a waste bin or genuine secure destruction.

• Lock and seal. Is there a lock or insert slot so no one can pull documents back out? Is the container or its contents sealed at collection? Without a lock it is not a secure stream.
• DIN 66399 level. Ask for the shredding level. For documents with personal data P-4 is the minimum, for a citizen service number or special data P-5 is the safe choice. If no level is named, it is probably not certified destruction.

• In-house or outsourced. Does the provider destroy itself or does it go to a partner? In-house means a shorter chain and fewer links where something can go wrong. Outsourcing is not necessarily bad, but you want to know who does it.
